This is our core business qualification to grow your opportunities. You can choose to specialise in accounting, management, marketing or the double major management and marketing. Some courses can be studied online.

Outline

If you are starting your business career and you want a degree EIT’s Bachelor of Business Studies BBS is just right for you. Alternatively, you might not yet know what direction you want to take your career but know you want a degree; in this case a business degree is a good option because it will develop your generic skills that could be used in a wide variety of careers.

Our philosophy is that business is a practical subject and that is how we teach it so don’t be surprised when you are asked solve problems in the complex world of people and uncertainty.

There are lots of business degrees and content is often quite similar but we feel our point of difference is that we offer a supportive learning environment because of our smaller class size and positive staff with lots of practical experience.

The BBS programme also distinguishes itself from many other similar degrees by being practically orientated but still having a research element.

Choosing your Major

EIT’s BBS is a Level 7 degree programme. It has three majors to choose from:

Accounting

Graduating with an accounting major means you’ll be able to practice accounting within small-to-medium businesses (SMEs), large companies, corporations, the not-for-profit sector, or your own business.

By appropriately choosing ‘elective’ courses, your accounting major will enable you to meet the academic (provisional admission) requirements for the accounting professional bodies: Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) – in either their Chartered Accountant (CA) or Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) Colleges: OR CPA Australia’s Associate Member (ASA).

Management

By choosing this major you’ll discover how to plan, strategies and problem-solve in business. You’ll also learn how to manage people and systems within the areas of marketing, business IT and communication, and HR (human resources). Just to name a few.

Career pathways after you graduate with your BBS include working as a team leader, functional manager or senior supervisor in a wide range of organisations and industries.

Marketing (Napier Campus alone)

There is increasing interest from students and employers in the Marketing Major. The major includes innovative courses in Branding, Marketing Communications and much more.

Majoring in this field opens up future careers as a marketing manager, national sales manager, key-account manager, or product manager.

Entry criteria

Applicants must meet degree standard entry requirements. Approved bridging programmes include the EIT Applied Diploma in Business and New Zealand Diploma in Business or provisional entry without prerequisites for those over 20 years. Applicants can also enter via Cross Credit or Recognition of Prior Learning.

English Language Requirements

• IELTS Academic score of 6 with no band score lower than 5.5
• TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)
• TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 60 (with a writing score of 20)
• University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations: FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill.
• Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 50
• City & Guilds IESOL: B2 Communicator with a score of 66
• NZCEL Level 4 Academic
• Completion of an EIT assessment.
