    Summary

The Master of Arts involves advanced study in an Arts subject and is intended for those who want to deepen their knowledge of that subject. The degree also includes a substantial component of independent research.

Are you seeking the ability to think critically and communicate well? A Master of Arts (MA) from Waikato will teach you the skills to work independently and see a major project through to completion. These are characteristics that are highly sought after by employers.

Enrolling in a MA gives you the opportunity to engage in independent (but supervised) research in one or more of a wide range of Arts subjects. Graduating with an MA provides you with a gateway to a higher research degree or to a wide range of careers.

    Maori Language/Te Reo Maori

Are you passionate about the survival, retention and maintenance of te reo 毛利? Studying the 毛利 language at Waikato, you'll explore the world of te reo's accompanying traditions, and will play an important role in the survival of the language for future generations.

Te reo 毛利 is a stoic language and an official language of Aotearoa/New Zealand. The study of te reo will enhance your identity as an individual, and will help to establish a foundation for encountering other worldviews, and the development of international links and connections.

You'll learn in a supportive environment that sees new and exciting ways to deliver the language and with practitioners that are committed to the ongoing survival, retention and maintenance of te reo 毛利.

The Te reo 毛利 programme at Waikato enables you to learn the language at an introductory level through to advanced. We are the only university that teaches level 3 during undergraduate study which enables you the advantage of attaining advanced language skills before progressing to graduate level or moving into the workforce.

There is also the opportunity to join a total immersion programme if you would like to gain the language in one year, and a mainstream programme for those who would rather study at a slower pace.

The ability to be fluent in both 毛利 and English has become increasingly important within a number of professional areas including (but not limited to) education, medicine, research, media, Government and travel and tourism.
