This programme is for educational practitioners who are graduates and want to improve their skills, knowledge and career prospects in Education. Developing skills in curriculum, pedagogy or policy development, the benefits include career advancement and the development of expertise in a specific area of educational practice.

The Faculty of Education offers a postgraduate study award to associate teachers in recognition of their work in supporting the Faculty’s initial teacher education programmes and students.

Students may focus their degree in a subject or a named MEd specialisation. It is also possible to create a personal programme of study by choosing the subject Education and taking a focused selection of papers.

The requirements are 180 points including:

• at least 60 points from the list for the subject or specialisation
• an approved Research Methods paper
• at least 30 points of independent supervised research in the area of the specialisation or subject

Entry criteria

Admission normally requires a bachelor’s degree with at least B average in the third year and a teaching qualification.

English language requirements:

IELTS - 6.5 overall (no less than 6.0 in writing); iBT (internet based TOFEL) - 90 with a score of 22 in writing; Pearson PTE Academic- 65 with English language requirements no less than 58 for each communicative skill; From Waikato Pathways College - Successful completion of Level 8 with a B grade average in the Certificate of Attainment in Academic (CAAE) programme.
