Summary
The Master of Teaching and Learning (Primary, Secondary) is an intensive one-year programme that prepares students with specialist skills and enhanced knowledge teaching in primary, secondary or 毛利 medium kura or whārekura settings.
This programme, available in English or Maori Medium, develops students' critical understanding of research-based pedagogical approaches, learning theory, inquiry skills and content knowledge so that they are able to effectively teach diverse learners in New Zealand schools.
Students also gain valuable practical experience, working at least 40 weeks of the year in a variety of classroom settings, with the professional support of faculty lecturers and mentor teachers.
The programme is underpinned by adult learning principles and there is an expectation that student teachers think critically and work independently.
Papers examine teaching in the New Zealand context, evidence-based inquiry, teaching diverse learners, and curriculum design and implementation. Students complete six 500 level postgraduate papers (180 points).
