Summary

The Master of Applied Information Technology enables students to undertake an extended programme of study, combining coursework with research, in order to prepare for further study or obtain a more senior position in their field of Information Technology.

The Master of Applied Information Technology requires 180 credits, and has two pathways: one involving a 45 credit research project and the other involving a 90 credit thesis. Students who want to take more level 8 electives will take the first pathway, whereas those wanting to undertake more substantial research will take the second pathway.

What You'll Study

The programme requires 180 credits, and candidates can choose either a project pathway, or a thesis pathway:

Project pathway involves a 45 credit research project;

Thesis pathway involves a 90 credit thesis.

Students who want to take more Level 8 electives would take the project pathway, whereas those wanting to undertake more substantial in-depth research would take the thesis pathway.

Career/further opportunities

Graduates of this programme will have the skills and knowledge to work in positions of responsibility in business analysis, business intelligence, data analytics, information security and forensics, information technology management, project management, software development and software quality assurance.

Graduates who complete the programme with good grades (including the thesis) may be able to obtain entry to doctoral programmes within New Zealand, or overseas.

Entry criteria

Entry into this course requires:

A bachelor degree in Computing or Information Technology or a related subject area, with a grade average of B or better in the final year of full-time study, or equivalent in part-time study; or
A Postgraduate Diploma in Computing or Information Technology or a related subject area, with a grade average of B or better; or
Equivalent as considered by the Centre's Postgraduate Programme Committee

English language requirements: IELTS: 6.5, TOEFL IBT 79, TOEFL PBT score of 590 or Pearson score of 58.
