Summary

If you want to develop the skills and knowledge that you need to gain entry into the science and technology industry, this programme is for you.

Graduates of this programme can gain entry level roles as lab technicians, researchers, and field-workers in manufacturing industries and regional and national government agencies; or pathway onto higher levels of study in Science or Engineering.

You will learn broad operational and theoretical knowledge in science and/or engineering and mathematics.

Your study will involve a compulsory ‘Professional Skills in Applied Science 2’ module; you’ll then be able to choose a context and modules from one of the two contexts - Applied Science or Engineering.

If you are currently working in the fields of food production or environment management, this qualification will support and enhance your knowledge in these areas.

Career/Further Opportunities

On completion of this programme, graduates from the science context can progress on to further study in Applied Science 5 or the Bachelor of Technology, or graduates from the engineering context will be able to go on to further study for the Bachelor of Engineering Technology.

You will also have the skills and knowledge to work under supervision in entry-level positions in science and technology-related fields of work including manufacturing and regulatory industries, field work, research and development.

Entry criteria

Applicants are required to have gained:

• 24 credits at NCEA Level 1, including 12 credits in English or 毛利; or
• A relevant qualification at NZQF Level 2 or above; or
• A Level 3 qualification in science; or
• Equivalent

English Language Requirements:

A minimum IELTS Academic band score of 5.5, with no band score less than 5.0; or equivalent, and TOEFL IBT 46, TOEFL PBT score of 550 or Pearson score of 42.
