Course details
Summary
Are you after a relevant electrical engineering qualification? Wintec’s New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (Electrical) (Level 6) is a qualification that has been developed in close consultation with industry (your future employers!) This means that the programme is designed to provide you with the electrical engineering knowledge and skills required to meet the needs of industry.
With this qualification you'll enter the engineering industry with the ability to apply understanding and skills to the standard expected of a practising engineering technician.
In this two year programme you’ll gain the core knowledge and practical skills needed for working in areas such as the power industry, industrial automation and consumer products.
What You'll Learn
Computer-based training is used alongside tutor led learning to provide the ultimate learning experience. You’ll use up-to-date industry equipment including Oscilloscopes (visual voltmeter) and automation systems. In the first two years of lab-based kinetic learning you will service electronic equipment and learn the basic skills you need for this industry from tutors who are Registered Electricians. There are 9 compulsory modules that you must complete over the two year programme including Engineering Fundamentals, Engineering Mathematics, Electrical and Electronic Principles, and specializations such as Power Engineering or Microcontrollers.
Additionally there are a mixture of elective modules that you can choose to study. You will be able to discuss this choice with the Programme Manager as these will depend on the pathway that you choose to take.
Career/Further Opportunities
The Diploma is run to the requirements of The Skills Organisation and Connexis (Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for New Zealand’s infrastructure industries). Wintec also has industry connections with the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand (IPENZ) that link us to organisations such as WEL Networks and Gallagher Group.
Graduates of the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering will be able to gain employment as engineering technicians in workplaces that have a technical/engineering basis relevant to their specialist engineering strand (mechanical, civil, electrical and electronics).
For the electrical engineering strand roles include working in power and building services infrastructure.
