Programme Overview

The Certificate in Multi-media Journalism is an 18-week introduction to journalism skills using a range of delivery modes – web, video, still images, radio and print. It is an ideal way to find out what the modern multi-media journalist does, and to make an informed decision about whether to advance to the news industry’s minimum diploma qualifications, or undertake other study.

The certificate introduces students to news reporting, research, interviewing, and writing, as well as photo-journalism, radio journalism and video reporting for the web.

The certificate is also important for school leavers to complete, and highly recommended for anyone interested in journalism, before going on to the New Zealand Diploma in Journalism (Level 5).

Students must successfully pass all compulsory requirements to graduate with a Certificate in Multimedia Journalism.

Entry criteria

10 credits NCEA Level 1 literacy and 10 credits NCEA Level 1 numeracy or equivalent plus evidence of writing ability based on interview and writing test

Proven equivalence to entry requirements and IELTS 6.5 (no band lower than 6.0)
