Programme Overview

The New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 3) provides students with the knowledge and skills of an entry level cookery worker.

Gain skills to prepare, cook and present a range of basic products. Learn food safety practices, communication skills, standard operating procedures in a commercial kitchen, problem-solving, literacy and numeracy skills.

Graduates will be able to progress their study on the New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 4) or the New Zealand Diploma in Cookery (Advanced) (Level 5), or enter the workforce as chefs in entry level positions producing basic dishes in a professional kitchen across the hospitality sector.

Entry criteria

10 NCEA Level 1 literacy and 10 NCEA Level 1 numeracy credits or equivalent; and capability to work in a commercial kitchen

International students

IELTS 5.0 (no band lower than 5.0), or equivalent
