Summary
Get the skills to work in the food and beverage industry, learning coffee and tea making, food service and gain practical experience in our on-site training cafés
Programme Overview
The New Zealand Certificate in Hospitality (Level 2) is a 12 week, fees-free programme on which students gain the practical knowledge and skills to begin working in the hospitality industry or to explore further study.
Our campuses have on-site, purpose-built training cafés equipped with espresso machines and baking facilities. Hospitality students provide café mornings to paying customers with this practical, hands-on experience ensuring that they are work ready.
Programme Outline
Customer Service
Gain skills in team work, self management, customer service and communication. Then put this into practice on café days, catering to a diverse range of customers.
Food Safety
Gain the skills and knowledge to meet the health and safety requirements needed in the hospitality sector.
Food and Beverage Preparation
Learn food and beverage preparation and service. Gain experience and skills in taking customer orders, operating espresso machines and other equipment in our on-site training café.
Work Preparation
Prepare for working in the hospitality café service area by gaining the skills required in our on-site training café.
Students studying at the Porirua and Kāpiti campuses have the opportunity to gain up to 40 credits at Level 2 to help towards NCEA Level 2.
Entry criteria
Evidence of successful completion of high school studies overseas or relevant recent tertiary study at Level 4 and/or relevant work experience (paid or unpaid); application considered on a case-by-case basis with entry granted at the discretion of the head of school.
International students
IELTS 5.0 (no band lower than 5.0, or equivalent)
