Programme Overview

Students gain general skills and knowledge required to work in a digital media design role as a technician or assistant. Graduates will be capable of applying general skills and knowledge to digital media and design projects independently and in teams.

Programme Outline

The following 15 credit courses make up the New Zealand Diploma in Digital Media and Design (Level 5):

Contextual Studies

• Study of the effects on design of contextual influences
• Technological changes and current issues

Creative Enterprise

• Marketing and promotion
• Business budgeting
• Project management

Applied Studio A

• Application of graphic design practices
• Principles and typography for publication communications
• Branding and packaging applications

Applied Studio B

• Application of graphic design practices,
• Principles and typography for interactive application
• Motion graphics and website design

Major Project

• Culmination of Applied Studio A and B into a project of choice in the student’s area of expertise – a capstone project
• Outcomes may include individual or collaborative outputs, and may be 2D or 3D

Entry criteria

Level 3 qualification in a related field or equivalent skills and/or knowledge

International Students

Proven equivalence of entry requirement plus IELTS 5.5 (no band below 5.0), or equivalent
