Learn how to enhance your teaching practices through the application of strategies to increase the literacy and numeracy skills of your learners in UCOL's New Zealand Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy Education (Vocational/Workplace).
This Certificate is ideal for tutors who are adult educators, workplace trainers, learning support staff, workplace mentors and learning designers. The course is delivered online via training for you.
Career & Study Outcomes
Successful graduates of this qualification will be able to:
Design embedded literacy and numeracy strategies to enhance learner outcomes in a vocational or workplace programme
Create and sustain a learner-centred teaching environment that respects learners’ mana and diverse backgrounds, and the wider educational and societal context, in order to facilitate quality learning
Embed literacy and numeracy teaching and learning in a vocational or workplace programme with consideration of Aotearoa New Zealand’s unique context
Use assessment and evaluation as tools to enhance student learning and own teaching practice in embedded literacy and numeracy teaching.
Employment options include being a lecturer, tutor or trainer. You may even wish to work at UCOL.
You could also continue on to further study in adult literacy and numeracy education at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
Accreditation
The programme is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority under the provisions of the Education Act 1989, and Universal College of Learning (UCOL) Trading as Universal College of Learning (UCOL) is accredited to teach it.
Entry criteria
NCEA Level 3 OR
Equivalent academic achievement OR
On a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Executive Dean
Applicants must attest to or provide written evidence that they are currently working (employed or voluntary) as an adult educator or trainer, and have access to a minimum of four adult learners (over 18 years of age) for the entire duration of the programme.
The minimum entry requirement for international students is IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5 (or equivalent including TOEFL).
Under 20 years of age
For international applicants under 20 years of age who do not hold NCEA, International Academic Qualifications Entry Criteria apply.
