Summary
Have a passion for travel and tourism and working with people? Do you want to expand your career options and learn about tourism enterprises, destinations and current issues such as the role of sustainability in the global tourism arena?
This qualification could increase your career prospects and be your passport to the world! As different modes of travel are becoming more accessible to a larger percentage of the world population, numbers of tourists are increasing. In turn, a huge variety of innovative tourist ventures are springing up, providing numerous employment opportunities for qualified individuals both within New Zealand and overseas.
Learn about tourism operations and enterprises, and complete an industry research project in a tourism organisation, enabling you to forge important relationships with potential employers in the industry. Benefit from the support of knowledgeable staff and gain a useful add-on to an existing bachelor’s degree in another area without having to undertake a full Tourism Management degree.
You will study
You will complete 120 credits of learning, of which 75 must be at Level 7.
LEVEL 6
Sustainable Tourism Practices: Undertake a holistic view of the complexities and challenges that tourism operators face to ensure they bring a future-focused approach to their operating practices.
Accommodation Services Management: Gain an understanding of the management and operational concepts of accommodation organizations from check-in to check-out.
Tourism Industry and Enterprises: Learn about tourism industry organizations in various destinations, including Virgin Airlines, Emirates, Disneyland, Top Deck Tours, and Contiki. Discover the different models of tourism business including virtual, cultural and sustainable to gain a broad in-depth knowledge of tourism organizations.
LEVEL 7
Contemporary Issues in the Tourism Industry: Explore current and contemporary issues within the tourism industry via research into areas of interest that are topical within the tourism industry at the time.
Destination Management: Learn about popular tourism destinations around the globe including Dubai, China, Brazil, Australia, Russia, India, South Africa, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Industry Project: This provides an opportunity to balance theory with applied learning in your workplace or host organization and tailor your studies accordingly to your interest.
Your programme of study will generally include lectures and seminars/ tutorials. You will be expected to contribute at least 20 hours per week of your own time in self-directed study to allow for successful completion of the qualification. You will also complete a 200-hour industry project, gaining hands-on experience and developing important industry and business connections.

Entry criteria
A bachelor's degree in any discipline OR equivalent skills/experience.
You may NOT enrol in a major that you have already studied at undergraduate level.
Successful completion of our New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 4) programme is an acceptable equivalent.
If English is not your first language, you must also demonstrate English language skills equivalent to an IELTS overall band score (academic) of 6.0, with no less than 5.5 in any other band.
