Summary
Programme highlights
Develop your management and supervisory skills, and have your experience formally recognised, or gain the advantage of a head start if you're new to hospitality.
Increase your operational and supervisory skills along with your knowledge of hospitality-specific and general business management techniques. Build on your management and planning skills in relation to food and beverage, restaurant, accommodation, human resources and functions operations, and learn how to communicate well in formal meetings and through report writing. Our students get real-world experience in our modern restaurant facilities and will undertake supervision of other students with hands-on function management and delivery.
Includes 200 hours of industry placement at leading Auckland hotels, restaurants, function and event centres, plus practical project work where you design and operate pop-up restaurants.

Programme structure
The Café (40 Credits)
In this course the focus is on key concepts underpinning hospitality management, particularly those relating to Food and Beverage Management, Finance and Human Resources. Delivery and assessment will be contextualised to hospitality situations and real life real time scenarios will be used to illustrate and highlight content. These scenarios will be based around MIT Facilities such as the Student Cafeteria's and Student Village.
The Event (40 Credits)
In this course the focus is on key concepts underpinning hospitality management, particularly those relating to Accommodation Management, Marketing and Communication.
Delivery and assessment will be contextualised to hospitality situations and real life – real time scenarios and will centre on the learners planning and executing a forum or seminar for at least 100 delegates.
Work Placement (40 Credits)
Work placement will occur on a continuous basis throughout the two trimesters of this programme.
Learners will spend a minimum of 200 hours with industry partner(s).
During the work placement, learners will be given a series of analytical and reflective assessments that will reinforce and focus the academic learning gained in The Café and The Event courses.
