Summary
Programme highlights
Learn intermediate level English language skills, whether you're a local or international student, and apply them in familiar settings and to familiar topics. Work towards your goals with a choice of three specialty options: General, Academic or Workplace.
Develop the skills to understand the main points and key details in an extended conversation, and factual information. Speak more naturally and fluently to express your ideas, and keep a conversation going. Read and understand a range of texts. Find and gather information for a specific purpose. Write clearly in paragraphs, with reasonable accuracy and using a range of styles.
Specialty options
General option: for those wanting to learn and practise general English language skills.
Workplace option (only available at Level 3): for those wanting to learn and practise the English language skills needed for employment.
Academic option: for those wanting to continue their study at an institute of technology, polytechnic or university.

The programme will consist of four compulsory courses, worth 15 credits each.

Entry criteria
Applicants must meet the following entry criteria:
Have New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 2) Or
Provide evidence of an overall IELTS (Academic) band score of 4.0- 4.5 Or
A level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) high A2 - low B1.
Provisional Entry
Students who have attained the age of 20 years and do not hold the minimum entry requirements for a programme will be eligible to be enrolled as a student where their previous educational, work or life experience indicates they have a reasonable likelihood of success. Students who have not attained the age of 20 years and do not hold the required minimum entry requirements for a programme may also be eligible to enrol in exceptional circumstances. Such decisions will be made by the Faculty Dean.
