Summary

The New Zealand Certificate in Animal Management is a 120 credit programme which prepares students with the skills, knowledge and attributes to ensure a positive welfare state for animals and carry out specific duties to manage the day-to-day operations of companion animal facilities.

Graduates of the New Zealand Certificate in Animal Management are able to:

Implement a health and safety plan in an animal care or training facility and ensure compliance with regulatory procedures.
Take responsibility for the day-to-day animal health and husbandry in an animal care facility.

After completing this certificate you can continue onto the New Zealand Certificate in Animal Technology, Veterinary Nursing Assistant Strand (Level 5).

Entry criteria

NCEA Level 1 and
36 NCEA credits at Level 2 including 12 credits in English at Level 2 and 12 credits of a relevant science (biology, chemistry or physics) at Level 1. Or
Level 2 or above Qualification demonstrating ability in English, mathematics and relevant science (biology, chemistry or physics) Or
New Zealand Certificate in Animal Care Level 3 Or

For adults students:

evidence of ability to study at a tertiary level and
evidence of the equivalent English and science knowledge as applies to school leavers, listed above.

English Language Requirements

IELTS Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5.0
TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE)
TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) score of 46 (with a writing score of 20)
University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations: FCE, or FCE for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill.
Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 42
City & Guilds IESOL: B2 Communicator with a score of 42
