Course details
Summary
Our degree develops your ability to respond to the dynamic changes taking place in the screen media and entertainment industries.
This practical degree programme covers a broad range of in-depth production skills for the creation of screen-based productions.
You will learn to create a full range of screen genres, including drama, light entertainment, music videos, commercials, documentary and news, from conception to publication.
We prepare you for entry into the screen industry with professional competencies matched to industry standards. This programme is kept relevant and cutting edge through continuous feedback from the industry.
Your career connections will be advanced with a 24 week industry internship in a broadcast media or production company. When you graduate from the New Zealand Broadcasting School you will be able to meet the needs of the industry from your very first day on the job.
Programme structure
To complete this Degree you are required to complete a minimum total of 360 credits. To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. We recommend you talk with us to ensure you choose electives to benefit your future career.

Entry criteria
Academic requirements
NCEA Level 3 (60 credits at Level 3 and 20 credits at Level 2 or higher) which must include 14 credits at Level 3 in each of 3 subjects from the list of approved subjects*, and 10 credits in approved literacy standards at Level 3, and
Note: Students who have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (eg International Baccalaureate, Cambridge examination) should contact us for requirements.
Alternative requirements
Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry. Literacy and numeracy assessments are available.
English language requirements:
IELTS 6.0 Academic (no lower than 7.0 listening, 6.0 in all other bands); TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) Score of Score of 60 or higher (with a writing score of 18); TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE); University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations - FCE or FCE for schools or CAE or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill; NZ Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) - Level 4 with the Academic endorsement; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 50; City and Guilds IESOL: B2 Communicator with a score of 66.
