Course details
Summary
Learning in our campus café from tutors with extensive experience you'll acquire the skills to produce a range of bar and barista beverages to a high standard and provide informal table service.
You'll also gain an understanding of operating procedures in cafes, bars and restaurants and learn how to communicate effectively in these environments.
Note: You can concurrently enrol in both the Level 3 and Level 4 components of the New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service.
This programme is also offered for Youth Guarantee students. You can apply for these options if you're 16 to 19 years of age and no longer at school, or if you're planning on leaving school.
Programme structure
To complete this Certificate you are required to complete a minimum total of 60 credits. To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. We recommend you talk with us to ensure you choose electives to benefit your future career.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
As a graduate of this programme you'll have the skills to provide barista and table service in licensed and unlicensed cafes, bars and restaurants.

IELTS test - General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14); TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) score of 500 (with an essay score of 4 TWE); University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations - FCE or FCE for schools or CAE or CPE with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill; NZ Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) Level 3 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace or Academic; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 36; City and Guilds IESOL: B1 Communicator with a score of 43.
