Prepare for higher level study in health and science.
This programme is a pathway for the Bachelor of Applied Science (Sport and Exercise Science). It covers a variety of subjects aimed at preparing you for higher level study in health and science, including human and microbial biology, cell biology and chemistry, maths and skills for academic study. All courses within this programme are available in Christchurch, Timaru and online.
Successful completion of this qualification does not guarantee entry to the pathway programme of study. Entry requirements for these programmes still apply.
Programme structure
To complete this Certificate you are required to complete a minimum total of 60 credits. Please browse the guide below to view the course options currently available within this qualification.
To be a full time student you need to maintain a workload of 120 credits per year. We recommend you talk with us to ensure you choose electives to benefit your future career.

Entry criteria
Academic requirements
40 credits NCEA Level 2, including 10 Level 1 Literacy credits and 10 Level 1 Mathematic credits (with a strength in Algebra for the Engineering Pathway and Numeracy for other pathways)
Or
New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3)
Alternative requirements
Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry. Literacy and numeracy assessments are available.
English Language requirements:
IELTS 5.5 Academic (with no band score lower than 5.0 in speaking and reading subtests and 5.5 in the listening and writing subtests); TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) Score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE); University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations - FCE or FCE for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; NZ Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) Level 4 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace, or Academic; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 42; City and Guilds IESOL: B2 Communicator with a score of 42.
