Summary
This programme is a pathway for the Bachelor of Applied Management and Bachelor of Information and Communication Technologies.
This programme covers a variety of subjects aimed at preparing you for higher-level study in health, applied science, engineering technology or business. You'll take core courses designed to equip you with fundamental academic skills, then a selection of courses specifically required for your chosen pathway. You can undertake a combination of on-site and online courses to complete the programme. All courses are available in Christchurch, Timaru and online, with the following exceptions:
Maths for the medical imaging pathway is only available in Christchurch or online
Maths and physics for the engineering pathway are only available in Christchurch
Some business courses are only available in Christchurch (contact the department for further details)
English for Tertiary Study (CSCP410) is only available in Christchurch
Skills for Academic Study Level 3 (CSCP300) is only available in Christchurch
Programme structure
To complete this Certificate you are required to complete a minimum total of 60 credits.

STUDY PATHWAYS
The Certificate in Study and Career Preparation leads directly to several Ara diplomas and degrees such as the Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Midwifery, Bachelor of Applied Science (three specialisations), Bachelor of Medical Imaging, Bachelor of Engineering Technology or the Bachelor of Applied Management (14 specialisations).

Academic requirements
40 credits NCEA Level 2, including 10 Level 1 Literacy credits and 10 Level 1 Mathematic credits (with a strength in Algebra for the Engineering Pathway and Numeracy for other pathways)
Or
New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3)
Alternative requirements
Skills for tertiary study (including literacy and numeracy) may be acquired through study, work and/or life experience. Students who can demonstrate these skills may be approved for alternative entry. Literacy and numeracy assessments are available.
English language requirements:
IELTS test - General or Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5; TOEFL Internet based test (iBT) Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14); TOEFL Paper-based test (pBT) Score of 530 (with an essay score of 4.5 TWE); University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations - FCE or FCE for schools with a score of 162. No less than 154 in each skill; NZ Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) Level 4 with an endorsement of either General, Workplace, or Academic; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 42; City and Guilds IESOL: B2 Communicator with a score of 42.
