Summary
Engineering technologists focus on practical design and applied technology, working across a wide range of engineering disciplines. The Bachelor of Engineering Technology prepares you for diverse engineering careers.
This engineering degree is accredited by Engineering New Zealand. It meets the Sydney Accord and prepares you for Technical Membership of Engineering New Zealand. You learn to make engineering judgements, solve problems creatively and ethically and design for sustainability. You develop strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, and communicate technical and non-technical information.
The Network and Communication Engineering major in the Bachelor of Engineering Technology covers the design, implementation, remediation and security of computer network devices and computer network systems.
Our world turns on information. Networks make exchanging information possible – communications networks transfer voice, video or data. Network and communication engineers are the people who make sure the information gets through – they design, test and build our communication networks. In the Network and Communication Engineering major you develop core skills in network engineering, and computer and network programming and installation.

Entry criteria
Applicants must be 18 years old and hold a qualification equivalent to New Zealand Year 13.
At least 14 NCEA credits at level 2 or higher externally assessed in Mathematics (including Algebra, Calculus, Geometry and Trigonometry) and Physics at level 2 or above OR
Any level 3 subject from Calculus, Mathematics, Statistics. Physics at level 2 or above
Preferred New Zealand school subjects: Digital Technologies, English, Technology
English Language requirements:
Minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0 overall with all bands 5.5 or higher; TOEFL iBT score of 80; Computer-based: Total score of 213 with a minimum essay rating of 4.0; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with B/B+ grade; GIE with B grade; CAE minimum overall score of 169; PTE minimum overall score of 50.
