You develop the language and study skills for study at bachelor's level. Some papers in the Diploma in English Language can be cross-credited to AUT's Bachelor of Arts in English and New Media Studies.

Entry criteria

NCEA: 48 credits at level 2 or higher including eight credits at level 1 in any one subject from Classical Studies, Drama, English, Geography, Health Education, History, History of Art, Media Studies, Social Studies or Business Studies, Economics, Physical Education, Te Reo 毛利, Te Reo Rangatira or ESOL level 3 credits in reading and writing.

English Language Requirements:

Minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 overall with all bands 5.0 or higher; TOEFL iBT score of 70; Computer-based: Total score of 213 with a minimum essay rating of 4.0; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with C/C+ grade; GIE with C+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 162; PTE minimum overall score of 42.
