Summary

The Master of Design is a one and a half year (full-time) research degree aimed at developing high level design expertise. The Master of Design provides the opportunity for you to research design through selecting to undertake 60 points of coursework and a 120 point thesis or 90 points of coursework and a 90 point research project. Each option can be tailored to suit your research interests.

The award-winning Design for Health & Wellbeing Lab is collaboration between the Auckland DHB and AUT aimed at improving healthcare experiences with patients, families and staff at Auckland City Hospital. You will learn to customize your approach to health and wellbeing problems through using Human-Centered Design to encourage collaboration, empathy, creativity, and prototyping. The DHWLab works on a project-by project basis, incorporating all design disciplines in the creation of solutions across spaces, environments, communication, services, digital and physical products.

The Lab enables designers to consult on a wide range of projects in fields such as product, graphic and spatial design. Students interested in engaging with the hospital through the lab will have access to the real-world context of healthcare.

Entry criteria

Applicants must have completed the Bachelor of Design or equivalent with a B grade average or higher in the papers at level 7 or above.

English Language requirements:

Minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher; TOEFL iBT score of 90; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with A grade; GIE with B+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 176; PTE minimum overall score of 58.
