The Massey BA (Education) delivers skills and strategies for learning, from the sociological to the philosophical. You’ll explore the developmental and cultural factors that influence approaches to learning, and gain transferable skills that will serve you personally and professionally.

Your qualification options
Please note that the Bachelor of Arts (Education) does not qualify you to be a teacher in New Zealand. If you want to be a teacher, you will also need to take a postgraduate teaching qualification.

Bachelor of Arts (Education) structure
Your major in Education will give you the chance to take a wide range of courses looking at the mainstays of educational policy and practice. You will begin your major with two 100-level courses: ‘An Introduction to Social and Cultural Studies in Education’, and ‘Human Development’. Both courses are compulsory for a major in Education.
When you have completed these you will begin to look at the more advanced areas of education. This includes courses on history, philosophy, psychology, and sociology of education. You can also take courses on human development and education research methods.
A major in Educational consists of 135 credits (nine courses).
Entry criteria
Students must have successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the New Zealand Year 13 - NCEA Level 3 University Entrance.
