To learn about history is to learn about change in the world and in ourselves. Having a better understanding of history will make you more broadminded as a person and citizen.

What is it Like?

History is a topic as large as our recorded past. Our cultural heritages, literatures, arts, religions, politics, economics, social behaviours, buildings and landscapes all derive from past influences.

Massey offers a range of topics so you can explore your own particular interests. This could include the history of New Zealand and the Pacific, Britain/Europe, pre-industrial societies, colonization, social and political history or contemporary history.

Requirements

The requirements for the Diploma in Arts endorsed in History are:

Pass in both:

• 230.111 Tū Kupu: Writing and Inquiry
• 230.112 Tū Arohae: Critical Thinking

Pass 75 credits in History consisting of:

At least 45 credits at 200- and 300-level in History

30 credits at any level in History

The remaining 15 credits for the Diploma in Arts can be from Part II of the schedule for the Bachelor of Arts degree (including further courses from the endorsement subject) and/or courses offered in other undergraduate degrees.

Entry criteria

Applicants must have completed New Zealand secondary school qualification or other equivalent overseas qualification.

English Language Requirements:

• IELTS score of 5.0 (no band less than 5.0)
• TOEFL iBT score of 61 overall (min 17 in Reading & Writing)
• PTE Academic score of 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills)
• Cambridge English score of 155
