WHAT IS IT LIKE?
Pretty well everything in philosophy is open to challenge - that is what drives what we do in philosophy: We ask questions and challenge ordinary assumptions. Philosophy is about the development of thinking strategies to achieve greater clarity and consistency in our thinking. It emphasizes the reasons for ideas. You will learn how to understand what you read rather than just to remember it and how to engage constructively in debate and to think in new ways.

The requirements for the Diploma in Arts endorsed in Philosophy are:

The remaining credits for the Diploma in Arts can be from Part II of the schedule for the Bachelor of Arts degree (including further courses from the endorsement subject) and/or courses offered in other undergraduate degrees.
You cannot take two courses with the same title to count towards your major, for example you cannot take both 134.208 and 134.308 Philosophy of Science. With the permission of the Head of School you can taken up to 30 credits (two courses) from a related discipline, one of these courses can be at 300-level.

Applicants must have completed New Zealand secondary school qualification or other equivalent overseas qualification.
