WHAT IS IT LIKE?

The Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology allows you to update your knowledge and skills in an area similar to that in which you graduated (or work in).

It is used primarily as a ‘pathway’ to help you complete subjects you need to enter a postgraduate qualification.

A fast pathway

The GradCertScTech gives you a relatively quick stepping stone to postgraduate study if you do not have the necessary pre-requisites.

A shorter programme

You can complete this certificate in one semester of full-time study.

Enter with industry experience

If you have substantial industry experience at a senior level this will be considered towards your application. This is on a case-by-case basis.

Use your credits toward a degree

You may have courses passed under the Graduate Certificate programme credited to a bachelor’s degree, provided the courses comply with the regulations of the degree in question.

Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology structure

You will follow a flexible course of study totaling at least 60 credits (four courses) which will consist of courses at 200-, 300- and 700-level. At least 45 credits must be at 300-level or above.

The Graduate Certificate in Science and Technology may be awarded with or without an endorsement. The only endorsement available for this qualification is lighting.

Lighting is unique specialisation you can focus on for your GradCertScTech. The courses in this speciality are designed to provide formal education to professionals in lighting and related industries.

You will undertake general study in the art, science and engineering of lighting, including photometry, vision and measurement, and lighting design (interior and exterior) with an emphasis on sustainability and energy saving. Successful completion of the qualification will provide the academic requirements for membership of the IESA. You may enter with a bachelor’s degree and in some instances industry experience.

Entry criteria

Entry into the programme requires you to have a bachelor degree, or equivalent, or be accepted as having equivalent status to a university graduate on the basis of equivalent relevant professional experience. You will also need to have a background adequate for the 200-level (second year of an undergraduate degree) courses you wish to study. If you do not have the necessary background for the 200-level courses then pre-requisite courses are available in the Certificate in Science and Technology. Passes in suitable courses from other universities will be accepted instead of the prescribed Massey University courses.

English language requirements:

• IELTS score of 6.0 (no band less than 5.5)
• TOEFL iBT score of 80 overall (min 19 in Writing)
• PTE Academic score of 50 Overall (min 42 in communicative skills)
• Cambridge English score of 170
