Summary
WHAT IS IT LIKE?
Today, artists are increasingly being drawn from a range of different disciplines. For those who currently work in the fields of design, science, humanities and new media technologies, studying fine arts offers an exciting extension of their own research interests. The Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts has been designed with this in mind and provides a significant pathway for skilled graduates to undertake new learning, acquire new knowledge and a qualification in fine arts.
Planning your programme
You will need to select courses to the value of 120 credits from Part A and Part B of the Schedule of the Graduate Diploma.
You are required to successful pass 90 credits of core courses selected from Part A and 30 credits of elective courses from Part B. The elective course can be across 200, 300 or 400 level subject to specific prerequisites (if any). You should include 213.341 Art Studio III and 213.342 Art Studio IV.
You need to select courses to the value of 120 credits at 200, 300 or 400-level from the range of courses for the Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours (prefix 213). A maximum of 45 credits at 200-level and a minimum of 75 credits at 300-level or above including courses 213.341 Art Studio III and 213.342 Art Studio IV.
Some courses may have limitations on numbers (in which case preference is given to Bachelor of Fine Arts students when the course is a core requirement for the subject area) and some have prerequisites, ie courses that must be passed prior to study at the next level. Thus you could be required to complete a 100-level course in addition to the courses that will count towards the diploma. Depending upon your previous study or experience, you may be granted an exemption from prerequisite courses on application to the Bachelor of Fine Arts Programme Leader.
Entry criteria
Entry to the Graduate Diploma in Fine Arts is open to applicants who have already achieved a bachelor’s degree or have a relevant background, and who submit a satisfactory portfolio of work and who at interview demonstrate readiness to undertake their desired course of study.
