Programme overview

You can take the one-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) as a qualification in its own right after a Bachelor of Arts, or as a pathway to a one-year Master of Arts.

Media, Film and Television

Film, television and other media are central to all aspects of contemporary society. By studying them you can gain insight into how we communicate, represent and reflect on ourselves and our world.

You can study all forms of media, including film, television, the internet, music video and digital media. You can examine aesthetics, content, audiences, social context, technology and production. Our scope is international, but we have a strong focus on media in Aoteoroa New Zealand.

Media, Film and Television and your career

Media, Film and Television can be useful for careers in business, politics or the cultural sector.

Our graduates have careers in film and television production and distribution, advertising, broadcasting, marketing, public relations, curating, archiving, editing, publishing, journalism and reviewing. They work in other forms of media writing, public policy, funding and regulatory bodies, web-based activities and teaching.

Entry criteria

A BA with a major in Film, Television and Media Studies, or Media, Film and Television. You must have an average grade of B or higher in 45 points above Stage II in the major.

IELTS 7.0; TOEFL (iBT) 100; TOEFL (paper-based) 600; CAE or CPE 185; PTE 65; MELAB 90.
