This degree is your pathway to becoming a leader and innovator in the exciting worlds of sport, health and physical education.

Whether your interest lies in working with youth or promoting health and wellbeing, this is your opportunity to turn your passion into a career.

You’ll learn from academic staff who are recognised internationally for their research, teaching and practice in the fields of sport, health and physical education. You’ll undertake industry experience to build your knowledge and to identify where your interests lie.

Programme structure

This three-year programme is designed for students to gain specialized knowledge in one area of interest while also developing a broad general knowledge of the worlds of sport, health and physical education.

From Year 2 onwards, students must choose one of five specialized pathways. Pathways include - health education and promotion, sport coaching and leadership, sport science, health and physical education, and dance.

To complete a BSportHPE degree you will need to pass courses totaling at least 360 points.

Entry criteria

Secondary school qualifications

You need to have one of the following:

International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level. You must have completed a minimum of three A-Level subjects with at least a 'C' grade or higher. General Studies or similar general papers cannot be included.

GCE ‘A’ Level requirements apply to ‘A’ Level qualifications examined by bodies such as AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC, CCEA, Pearson Education Limited and CIE taken outside of New Zealand.

English language requirements:

IELTS 6.0; TOEFL (iBT) 80; TOEFL (paper-based) 550; CAE or CPE 169; PTE 50; MELAB 80.
