Programme overview

This diploma is for medical practitioners registered and working in New Zealand. Students are required to complete six months of paediatric training before the end of the study year.

Diploma candidates undergo a programme of practical training and formal education, with significant online delivery.

Programme structure

120-point qualification.

Core course is Diploma in Paediatrics (PAEDS 601) (120 points).

The core course requires submission of a logbook and critical appraisal of your experience in the community aspects of the care of children and young people.

Submission of a dissertation focusing on a child or youth health problem or service.

A written and clinical examination.

The programme has a two-day workshop at the beginning of the year. This covers a range of topics including child development, paediatric dermatology, neonatal resuscitation, paediatric rheumatology, youth health and child and adolescent mental health.

This is followed by a programme of self-directed learning.

Patient management problems or case-based questions will be posed for many of the topics so you have the opportunity to apply knowledge gained from broad reading of the topic.

Entry criteria

You must have completed, and held for at least one year, an undergraduate medical qualification such as the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). Your study must have been at a recognised university (or similar institution).

IELTS 6.5; TOEFL (iBT) 90; TOEFL (paper-based) 575; CAE or CPE 176; PTE 58; MELAB 85.
