If you are an aspiring or current educational leader who is passionate about leading improvements that serve diverse communities and learners, this qualification is for you.

You will be able to understand, critique and contribute to research that is shaping Aotearoa New Zealand’s educational policy and practice.

Research masters

Pursue research in an area of your choice that links to educational leadership, and work closely with University researchers in this field. Completion by thesis.

Taught masters

Study at an advanced level around aspects of Educational Leadership. Includes coursework and a dissertation.

120 points: Thesis

Taught masters 120 points

60 points: Dissertation

60 points from selected courses in Education, Education Curriculum Studies, and Education Professional Studies or other 700 level courses approved by the Programme Head.

Entry criteria

You must have completed one year of postgraduate study in education or educational leadership, following an undergraduate degree, at a recognised university (or similar institution) with a GPE of 5.0.

You must hold a professional qualification in teaching (or similar profession) with at least three years of practical experience in teaching or a related profession, including experience in a formal or informal leadership and/or management role.

Note: If you already hold a masters degree in educational administration, educational management, or substantially similar qualification, you may not be admitted to this programme.

English language requirements:
IELTS 6.5; TOEFL (iBT) 90; TOEFL (paper-based) 575; CAE or CPE 176; PTE 58; MELAB 85.
