    The Master of Science (MSc) programme enables you to pursue advanced study in your area of interest with the opportunity to work on independent research.

    Programme overview

    Studying for an MSc is an opportunity for committed scientists to focus on a relevant area of interest or practise and pursue an advanced qualification. While taught masters will provide you with specialist training in your chosen field, a research masters will develop advanced research skills, working alongside Faculty of Science researchers - many of whom are major contributors in their field.

    Mathematics

    Mathematics interacts with other disciplines and makes essential contributions to science, medicine and commerce as well as to many important contemporary areas of technology such as communications, linguistics and genetics. Wherever problems need to be solved, mathematics has a role to play.

    120 points: MATHS 796 Thesis in Mathematics, or;

    90 points: MATHS 798 Research Portfolio in Mathematics
    30 points from MATHS 701–789, 792–797 or approved 700 level courses in related subjects with the approval of the Head of Department

    Entry criteria

    The prerequisite is a PGDipSci in Marine Science or equivalent.
