    Summary

The PGDipArts is an alternative to the Bachelor of Arts (Honours). This programme might be for you if you want to undertake advanced study without writing a dissertation, if honours degrees aren’t recognised in your country, or if you would like to study part-time over a longer period.

You can use a completed PGDipArts with a GPA of 5.0 or higher as an entry qualification for the one-year Master of Arts.

    Economics

Many of the great issues we face require trade-offs between conflicting objectives - this is the essence of Economics.

Economics is central to the social sciences. The study of Economics will give you a broad but thorough appreciation of modern economics. The emphasis is on developing your competence in economic analysis and applying this to real-world issues.

    Economics and your career

Economics can give you a strong platform for your future career. You could work in industry, central or local government, international business, the financial sector, journalism or teaching. You might be a trade negotiator for New Zealand at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Geneva or in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) in Wellington; an adviser for a leading NGO (non-governmental organisation); an economics expert in a management consulting firm; or a policy analyst for The New Zealand Treasury.
