    Summary

    This diploma provides an advanced understanding of the theoretical and practical issues and the skills to apply these principles in the workplace, research and day-to-day life.

    It covers a range of activities and disciplines including epidemiology, demography, sociology, health statistics, health economics, health promotion, health management, health protection, environmental health and health services and policy.

    Students wishing to enrol in the Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health (PGDipPH), specialising in Pacific Health require a relevant undergraduate degree (or equivalent professional qualification and practical experience). Students who have completed the Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health apply to credit the 60 points to this programme.

    This programme is offered by the School of Population Health and is taught and assessed entirely by coursework. Some courses in this subject area are offered in a Flexible learning format.

    Students wishing to complete the PGDipPH in Pacific Health specialisation are required to enrol and complete the following courses:

    POPLHLTH 760 - Principles of Public Health (15 Points)

    POPLPRAC 711 - Health Promotion in Pacific Community Development (15 Points)

    a 15 points research course from:

    POPLHLTH 701 - Research Methods in Health (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 704 - Undertaking Qualitative Health Research (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 705 - Evaluation Research Methods (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 706 - Statistics in Health Science (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 707 - Statistics in Health Science 2 (15 Points)

    POPLHLTH 767 - Health Services Research Methods (15 Points)

    at least 30 points from

    POPLHLTH 715 - Global Public Health (15 points)

    POPLHLTH 752 - Cases Studies in Global Health (15 Points)

    POPLPRAC 716 - Practicum in Pacific Health

    and up to 15 points from courses listed in the Master of Public Health Schedule.

    Students who have completed the requirements for the degree of Bachelor of Health Sciences at the University of Auckland must choose an alternative course to replace POPLHLTH 760.

    Entry criteria

    You must have completed an undergraduate degree in a health-related discipline such as dentistry, health sciences, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, psychology, public health, or social work. Your study must have been at a recognised university (or similar institution). You will typically need a GPA or GPE of at least 3.0.

    IELTS 6.5; TOEFL (iBT) 90; TOEFL (paper-based) 575; CAE or CPE 176; PTE 58; MELAB 85.
