    Summary

    The Bachelor of Physical Education (BPhEd) is a four-year undergraduate degree. The first two years of the programme provide the core foundation of the degree. Years three and four allow specialization whereby students are encouraged to explore diverse areas including exercise and sport science, sport and leisure studies, exercise prescription and management, 毛利 physical education, dance, teaching and learning, and outdoor education.

    It is a well established, highly respected degree, and leads to a variety of careers. The degree emphasizes teamwork and helps students develop important interpersonal and communication skills, with an emphasis on critical thinking, effective communication and creative problem solving.

    The Programs of study occur in a context that encourages interactions between our students and people from all walks of life - including people with disabilities, elite athletes, academics, business people, scientific and educational researchers, and researchers and individuals from various cultures.

    Physical Activity and Health (formerly Exercise Prescription and Health) is available as a major for the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPhEd) degree.

    This major focuses on physical activity and exercise as a means to enhance a person's life-long development and well being. Papers involve the design of exercise Programs tailored to the needs of a wide range of clients. Subject areas include: Sports Injuries, Exercise for Prevention and Rehabilitation, and Adapted Physical Activity.

    Bachelor of Physical Education with Honours (BPhEd(Hons)) is also available

    The degree of Bachelor of Physical Education with Honours (BPhEd(Hons)) is a more prestigious degree than the normal Bachelor of Physical Education (BPhEd) degree, and is completed in four years. It is a research-oriented degree that culminates in the completion of a dissertation in the student's final year. Upon admission to the Honours programme students engage in an intensive workload that differs significantly from the normal BPhEd degree. The structure of the Honours course reflects the topic area of admission. In the third year courses normally require study that supports the area of research. The fourth year of the Honours programme is a prescribed year, in which students must complete a research dissertation in addition to the prescribed papers.

    Entry criteria

    The minimum requirement for students is the completion of a high school qualification plus satisfactory completion of one year's study at an approved tertiary institution or successful completion New Zealand Foundation Year programme.

    We also accept the following International qualifications: International Baccalaureate: IB Diploma with a minimum of 26 points; GCE Advanced Levels: minimum grade of 8.

    English Language Requirements:

    IELTS score of 6.0 in the academic module (with no individual band below 6.0); Internet-based TOEFL Score of 80 (writing 20); Paper-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 (TWE 4.5); CIE Cambridge International Examinations Grade E or better in AS English; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - Overall score of 176 (with no individual band below 169); Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - Overall score of 176 (with no individual band below 169); GCE 'A' Level or 'AS' Level English Language or English Literature - grade C or higher; GCE 'AS' Level General Paper (English) - grade C or higher; APIEL (Advanced Placement International English Language) Examination - grade 3 or higher; IB International Baccalaureate - English at Higher or Standard level in Language A: literature, Language A: language and literature, or at Higher level in Language B; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic - Overall score of 58 with no communicative skills score below 50.
