Summary

The Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Therapy (PGDipDentTher) programme may be taken over one year (full-time) by practicing dental therapists. The programme aims to produce graduates with advanced understanding of dental science pertaining to dental therapy care. It also aims to develop skills in critical analysis of dental therapy practice, skills in dental public health management, and clinical skills related to recent innovations in clinical and preventive practice. It is a programme to support dental therapists in their ongoing professional development.

Structure of the Programme

The programme of study shall consist of four papers:

• DTHR 401 Dental Therapy Clinical Practice (30 points)
• DTHR 402 Dental Therapy Management Practice (30 points)
• DTHR 403 Dental Therapy Practice Project (30 points)
• DTHR 404 Dental Public Health (30 points)

Entry criteria

• Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) on the advice of the Faculty of Dentistry.
• Every applicant shall present evidence of having completed a programme in Dental Therapy requiring at least two years of study and shall have been practising for at least two years.

English Language Requirements: Internet-based TOEFL of 102 or better with a minimum of 24 in each section; or Paper-based TOEFL of 600 or better with a TWE (Test of Written English) of 5.0 or better; or IELTS (Academic) of 7.5 overall with a minimum of 7 in each band
