Course details
Summary
The Bachelor of Laws with Honours is a chance for you to extend your skills and gain an edge in your career opportunities.
The first part of this degree starts with the Bachelor of Laws (LLB). There are only about 35 places for the Honours programme, so competition for selection into this degree is fierce. Selection is based on the results of your best three 200-level Law courses (LAWS 211–214).
If you're invited in to the Bachelor of Laws with Honours, you will spend the remainder of your study working closely with tutors and lecturers, refining your research, writing and analytical skills in a range of specialist areas.
Conjoint and double degrees
You can choose to combine your LLB(Hons) with another Victoria degree in a conjoint degree. A conjoint degree will allow you to complete the four-year LLB(Hons) and a three-year degree within five years.
Popular combinations with an LLB(Hons) are a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce or a Bachelor of Science.
Conjoint or double degrees are more intense programmes of study and we recommend you talk to an adviser about making a plan that will work for you.
First and second year
You'll start the first part of your degree studying for a Bachelor of Laws.
Third and fourth year
As well as taking the compulsory LLB courses and nine 300-level LAWS electives from the LLB degree, you'll do an 8,000-word research essay in the third year, and a 40-point 500-level course in your fourth year.
Over the next two years, you'll also do two 10-point Honours seminars, the timing of which will depend on your timetable and interests.
Go postgraduate
If you're interested in continuing your Law studies but want to get out to work, you can study a Master of Laws part time. You can also do a Graduate Certificate in Law, or take some of our short courses aimed at professional development.
