Summary

Our Earth is shaped by different cultural, social and physical forces. Study Geography and learn about these different features of our world.

The Earth and its environment are made up of many complex and beautiful systems, both natural and manmade. How do these systems like the weather or population growth shape us and our planet?

Study Geography to learn about the world we live in and the processes that have created it. Look at human issues like poverty and inequality, and explore the relationships between natural systems.

At Victoria, you can study both the social and the physical aspects of geography. Choose to focus on the natural or the human environment, or gain an overall view of the different processes that shape the world we live in.

After you graduate

You could work as an adviser to an aid and development organisation, or work in conservation, land and water management, geospatial analysis or foreign affairs.

Explore spatial and geographic data using computer-based systems. Create new ways to visually interpret and present this information on maps and map layers, using smartphones and mobile devices as data viewers, and even through interactive infographics.

You'll investigate the ideas behind the creation of these systems and think about the way we can conceptualise spatial problems from disaster management, to conservation monitoring, to archaeology.

Entry criteria

Applicants must have successfully completed a New Zealand Bachelor’s degree or its overseas equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.

Other English Language requirements:

• IELTS: minimum overall score of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0
• TOEFL: minimum score of 90 for the internet-based test with a minimum of 20 in writing
• Pearson Test of English: minimum score of 65 (with a ‘Communicative’ score of not less than 58).
