Summary

Designed for working professionals from any walk of life who want to develop their skills and knowledge in the area of Sport Coaching, this certificate can be completed by distance around your other commitments.

Coaches can complement and enhance their work-based skills or, if you are currently not employed in the sporting industry, you can develop skills and competencies to support your knowledge and performance in the area of Sport Coaching and related fields.

Qualification structure and duration

The Certificate in Sport Coaching comprises a minimum of 60 points at 100 and 200-level.

The certificate can be completed in one to two years of part-time study.

Credit can be transferred to the Bachelor of Sport Coaching, provided you have not graduated with the certificate (and no more than five years has elapsed).

Subjects and courses

Students complete two core courses: SPCO 101 Introduction to Sport Coaching and SPCO 201 Athlete-Centred Coaching 1 plus two other optional courses.

Further study

Credit can be transferred to the Bachelor of Sport Coaching, provided you meet the entry requirements for the degree.

Credit may be transferred to other qualifications by approval of the appropriate Dean. If you are considering this, you should consult a Liaison Officer (new students) or a College of Education, Health and Human Development Student Advisor (advancing student).

Entry criteria

Admission to UC with University Entrance, or equivalent, is required to enrol for a Certificate in Arts. Applicants must have completed New Zealand University Entrance through NCEA; or Cambridge International Examinations (CIE); or International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) or any other equivalent overseas qualification.

Other English language requirements: TOEFL PBT with a minimum score of 550 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5; CCEL EAP Level 2 with a minimum C+ grade; CAE or CPE minimum score of 169 with at least 162 in reading, writing, listening and speaking; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE with an overall score of 57 and no PTE communicative skills score below 50.
