Summary
The University of Canterbury's Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme is oriented towards general management. It aims to facilitate the transition from a technical or professional background to general manager by developing participants' leadership and management skills.
The MBA at UC is internationally accredited by the London-based Association of MBAs (AMBA), and the School of Business and Economics is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), placing it in the top five percent of business schools worldwide.
The programme facilitates opportunities to attend seminars, guest lectures and networking events, in addition to the course structure which incorporates compulsory and elective courses as well as a project.
The MBA is one of the qualifications within the Executive Development Programmes, offering a chance to upskill through postgraduate study, make a career change and gain relevant business connections and experiences.
Qualification structure and duration
The structure of the Master of Business Administration programme is closely prescribed, and consists of compulsory courses, electives and a project.

The MBA schedule incorporates 12 compulsory courses (Group A), six courses (or the equivalent) from a specified list of options (Group B), and a project worth six courses.

Postgraduate study can bring many career benefits eg, specialist skills and enhanced knowledge, entry into specific occupations, higher starting salary/progression rates, research capability/achievement and evidence of high academic attainment/self-discipline.
Entry criteria
Normally the minimum requirement is a three-year bachelor's degree from a New Zealand university, or a qualification or combination of qualifications considered to be equivalent.
If you gained your qualifications overseas, these will need to be assessed to make sure they are of an equivalent standard.
Candidates must be approved by the Dean of Commerce who will take account of the relevance and standard of previous studies and experience. A degree or the Graduate Diploma in Business Administration must have been completed with good grades, and at least five years managerial work experience is required.
Other English language requirements: TOEFL PBT with a minimum score of 575 and TWE with a minimum score of 4.5; CCEL EAP Level 2 with a minimum B+ grade; CAE or CPE score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in reading, writing, listening and speaking; Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PTE with an overall score of 64 and no PTE communicative skills score below 58.
