Summary

The Graduate Certificate in Academic English provides a language and study skills bridge to postgraduate study for students with an undergraduate degree who have yet to meet English Language admission requirements. Upon successful completion of the Graduate Certificate, students will be eligible to enter postgraduate study at Lincoln University.

This graduate certificate is the only one of its kind offered by a New Zealand university and is a CUAP-approved qualification. Where a New Zealand university course requires an English language level of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, the Graduate Certificate provides this.

Students who study the Graduate Certificate in Academic English prepare for postgraduate study not only in English Language but also in academic skills, connecting them through their course resources to their intended areas of future study in Lincoln University’s faculties.

Prospective students who wish to enter the Graduate Certificate in Academic English but who do not yet meet the required English Language admission level may enrol in Lincoln University’s English Language Programme first.

Entry criteria

Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited higher education institution in New Zealand, or an approved equivalent status (ad eundem statum).

Applicants should also have obtained an Overall CAE and FCE score of 169, with no individual component less than 162; PTE of 50 overall score - with no communicative skill less than 42; Lincoln University English Language LU EL 65%; NZCEL of Level 4 (Academic or Professional Endorsement).
