Summary

This programme is intended for learners of English as an additional language who have minimal command of English.

Graduates will have the language skills required to communicate with support, in basic, familiar, everyday situations in order to participate in an English language environment.

This programme is at a level comparable to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) A2.

Career/Further Opportunities

The New Zealand Certificate in English Language (Level 1) offers the necessary language proficiency for entry into further English language programmes, usually NZCEL (Level 2).

Entry criteria

To be eligible for this programme, candidates must be 16 years or older, have achieved NZCEL Foundation Level 1 and/or must take part in a selection interview and may be required to take a Placement Test to determine their current English language level and learning goals.

Selection criteria: Attend an interview and test to establish the English language skill level, and demonstrate the likelihood of success. International applicants must have Immigration New Zealand documentation verifying eligibility to study in New Zealand.
