Summary

This programme will open the door to a world of industry opportunities from becoming a salon stylist, a colorist, a fashion stylist or even owning your own salon.

You’ll further advance your professional hairdressing skills and knowledge; learn a range of cutting styles, permanent colouring techniques, reformation services, and advanced styling. You will also gain a practical understanding of the daily business needs and practices of a working salon.

You will practice on real clients providing them with consultations and a quality salon experience.

In addition you will complete 160 hours of work-based learning where you will gain hands-on experience while working in a range of real working salons with support from your tutors.

On completion of this programme, you will need to work in a salon to complete your final credits before you can be registered as a fully qualified hairdresser.

Career/Further Opportunities

Graduates will be equipped to work as an Emerging Stylist in a hairdressing salon.

Graduates of this programme may progress into the New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Professional Stylist)

Entry criteria

Applicants are required to have completed:

(a) New Zealand Certificate in Hairdressing (Salon Support) (Level 3);or
(b) Comparable Level 3 qualification in hairdressing.

English Language Requirements:

A minimum IELTS Academic band score of 5.5, with no band score less than 5.0; or equivalent, and TOEFL IBT 46, TOEFL PBT score of 550 or Pearson score of 42.
