Programme Overview

This programme provides students with the knowledge and skills to begin work as a professional waiter or barista.

Programme Outline

Gain experience in our training café, serving paying customers hot and cold beverages as well as baking products. Work closely with cookery students and provide table and food service during evening productions, including serving beverages during and after the meal service.

Graduates can progress their study on the New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 3 or 4) or enter the workforce with the core skills, knowledge and personal attributes to work as service personnel within the food and beverage sectors, particularly as waiters in restaurants providing table service, and as baristas in a range of hospitality establishments.

Entry criteria

NCEA Level 1 numeracy and literacy

International students

Minimum IELTS score 5.5, with no band score lower then 5
