Summary

The Certificate in Social Sciences offers the opportunity to gain entrance to the Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences or Psychology and other relevant qualifications at AUT.

The certificate improves study skills, introduces social science concepts and increases confidence in a university setting. It also provides a foundation for social services, community work and other human services work.

Entry criteria

Completion of Year 12

48 credits at level 2 and 8 credits at level 1 or higher in one of the following subjects:

• Classical Studies
• Drama
• English
• Geography
• Health Education
• History
• History of Art
• Media Studies
• Social Studies
• Business Studies
• Economics
• Physical Education
• Te Reo Maori
• Te Reo Rangatira.

Applicants will be selected on the basis of the appropriateness of NCEA subjects to the study of Social Sciences

English Language requirements:

Minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 5.5 overall with all bands 5.0 or higher; TOEFL iBT score of 70; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with C/C+ grade; GIE with C+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 162; PTE minimum overall score of 42.
