Summary

The Master of Engineering is designed to help you develop your research skills and enhance your knowledge in the field of engineering. There are two pathways: Research (includes a thesis), or Coursework (includes a research project). We're proud to be home to a number of renowned research institutes and centres, and many of our students complete their research project in collaboration with these well-known research entities. As a successful graduate, you will be well-prepared to return to the workforce or pursue further study.

Structure

Research Pathway

• ENGE802 Engineering Research Methodology (15 points)

45 points from the list of engineering papers

• And ENGE999 Thesis (120 points)

Students in this pathway will focus on academic research, linking into one of the well established research centers within the school. An academic supervisor will be appointed to guide and direct you for the duration of the thesis. The research may be across various subjects or subject-specific depending on what you choose. Applicants admitted on the basis of a postgraduate diploma or honours degree who have completed a Research Methods paper may be permitted to enroll directly into the thesis.

Entry criteria

Applicants must have completed one of the following (or equivalent) with a B grade average or higher in the final year of study:

• the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) or
• the Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering
• the Bachelor of Engineering Technology

Applicants must normally have completed an advanced level of calculus at least equivalent to NZQF Level 6.

Applicants to the research pathway are also required to submit a Postgraduate Research Proposal (PGR1 form) before enrolling in the thesis.

English Language requirements:

Minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 overall with all bands 6.0 or higher; TOEFL iBT score of 90; Certificate in English for Academic Study (CertEAS) with A grade; GIE with B+ grade; CAE minimum overall score of 176; PTE minimum overall score of 58.
