WHAT IS IT LIKE?

Massey University’s Certificate of Aviation Studies is the only one of its kind in New Zealand. Massey is the only place in New Zealand where you can turn your passion for aviation into a tertiary qualification.

We are an internationally-recognized pilot training facility, but we also give you a broad knowledge of the global aviation industry.

You will learn communication, management and administrative skills that will broaden out the range of careers open to you in the aviation industry.

The qualification consists of sixty credits (four courses) that can be completed within a semester. This gives you the Certificate, where you can stop. Or you can continue studying towards a bachelor’s degree like the Bachelor of Aviation Management or the Bachelor of Aviation. Should you choose to continue studying, the credits from your certificate study will be credited towards this degree.

The Certificate in Aviation Studies draws on existing courses from the Bachelor of Aviation Management, giving you an insight into what studying towards this qualification may be like.

You will gain knowledge of specialist aviation subjects to assist your professional development. You will also learn some of the essential skills necessary to move into senior roles and those that are hallmarks of tertiary study:

The Cert of Aviation Studies enables busy aviation professionals to gain a taste of university study. Successful completion of the Cert Av Studies can then be your pathway to enrolling in the BAvMan.

Certificate in Aviation Studies structure

To qualify for the award of the Certificate, a candidate shall pass undergraduate courses to a total of at least 60 credits. The Certificate in Aviation Studies is awarded without Specialisation.

At least 45 credits must be taken from the Schedule for the Bachelor of Aviation Management degree and / or other aviation courses as approved by the School of Aviation. Up to 15 credits may be taken from Schedules for other undergraduate degrees.

A candidate who has completed the requirements for the Certificate in Aviation Studies may apply to transfer the Certificate courses towards an undergraduate diploma or degree of the University, provided that any such courses shall comply with the Regulations for the diploma or degree in question.

Entry criteria

50 NCEA credits at Level 2 in approved subjects, including 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in each of Mathematics and English or equivalent overseas qualification.

English Language Requirements:

• IELTS score of 5.0 (no band less than 5.0)
• TOEFL iBT score of 61 overall (min 17 in Reading & Writing)
• PTE Academic score of 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills)
• Cambridge English score of 155
