WHAT IS IT LIKE?

The Certificate in Business Studies is designed for students who want a formal university qualification but do not want to undertake a full degree programme. It is ideal for students who wish to pursue an interest in a particular subject area or study a range of courses for personal interest. A stepping stone

Some students use the Certificate as a stepping stone to study for a degree. Students must meet the normal university entrance requirements to enrol for a course of study for the Certificate in Business Studies. Students can graduate with the Certificate, and then apply to cross-credit 15 credits of Certificate courses toward an undergraduate degree, provided the courses comply with regulations for that degree.

A candidate who wishes to credit courses totaling more than 15 credits must surrender the Certificate in Business Studies before transfer of credit will be granted.

Certificate in Business Studies structure

To gain the certificate you must pass courses to a total of at least 60 credits. No R grade passes can be included in the Certificate of Business Studies

At least 45 credits must be taken from the Schedule for the Bachelor of Business Studies degree. Up to 15 credits may be taken from Schedules for other undergraduate degrees.

Candidate who has completed the requirements for the Certificate in Business Studies may apply to transfer the Certificate courses towards an undergraduate diploma or degree of the University, provided that any such courses shall comply with the Regulations for the diploma or degree in question.

Entry criteria

50 NCEA credits at Level 2 in approved subjects, including 14 credits at Level 1 or higher in each of Mathematics and English or equivalent overseas qualification

English Language Requirements:

• IELTS score of 5.0 (no band less than 5.0)
• TOEFL iBT score of 61 overall (min 17 in Reading & Writing)
• PTE Academic score of 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills)
• Cambridge English score of 155
