WHAT IS IT LIKE?

In this fast and changing society, it is important to develop versatile and transferable skills that can open many career pathways. Massey University's English major offers exciting and challenging courses to extend your knowledge of literary and media texts and expressive arts.

Courses taught in the English programme cover a wide spectrum of topics. British, American, New Zealand, and postcolonial literature are generally the central focus, but we also offer courses in drama, creative writing, speaking, media studies, film, and gender issues. All of these courses are concerned with the fundamental skills of interpretation and expression.

Requirements

The requirements for the Diploma in Arts endorsed in English are:

Pass in both:

• 230.111 Tū Kupu: Writing and Inquiry
• 230.112 Tū Arohae: Critical Thinking

At least 75 credits in English, including: 139.139; 45 credits at 200- and/or 300-level, and 15 credits at any level from the English schedule, with at least 45 credits from the List A Endorsement Courses.

Entry criteria

Applicants must have completed New Zealand secondary school qualification or other equivalent overseas qualification.

English Language Requirements:

• IELTS score of 5.0 (no band less than 5.0)
• TOEFL iBT score of 61 overall (min 17 in Reading & Writing)
• PTE Academic score of 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills)
• Cambridge English score of 155
